Telegram Group Anti-Spam Checklist
A practical, settings-first checklist for Telegram group owners. Most steps use only Telegram's built-in tools.
1. Lock the door
- Edit → Permissions → turn off "Add members" for regular members.
- Public groups: Edit → Group type → Approve new members.
- Private groups: create invite links with Request admin approval.
- One named invite link per source (website, channel, partners) so you can revoke a leaked one.
2. Limit what newcomers can do
- No links or media for the first 24 hours (most admin bots support this).
- Slow mode 10–30 s during raids.
3. Use Telegram's native anti-spam
- Groups above Telegram's size threshold: Administrators → Aggressive Anti-Spam.
- Review false positives in Recent Actions (admin log keeps ~48 h).
4. Protect members from DMs
- Hide the member list where available.
- Pin: "Admins never DM you first. Never share login codes or wallet phrases."
5. Add a content-aware filter
Keyword lists miss obfuscated ads ("s p a c e d" letters, look-alike characters, text in images).
A semantic filter closes that gap. Example: Xiabao (@xiabaotg_bot) — free for group owners.
Disclosure: maintained by the Xiabao team. Any bot you choose should need only Delete messages and Ban users.
6. Review monthly
- Spam removed by hand vs. automatically
- False positives / appeals
- Leaked invite links
